Introduction
As a new SAS programmer in the pharmaceutical industry, I think the core competitiveness still lies in his/her programming skills and understanding of data standards. Programming skills are closely related to productivity, while a comprehensive and deep understanding of data standards is a strong guarantee of project quality improvement. Of course, adapting to this job is an inevitable and crucial process for newcomers, especially those ;who have no SAS experience at all&.
01
There are two main aspects in the process of adapting to the job, namely learning SAS programming knowledge and familiarizing yourself with the workflow. Years of study have taught us that no matter what we learn, systematization is very important. After mastering the overall framework, you can add details to this framework through daily work and accumulation to enrich and complete the knowledge system.
Therefore, the first step in learning SAS is to gain systematic knowledge. Specifically, SAS is divided into data and procedures. Which functions are commonly used in the data? What are the general roles of these functions? Which procedures are commonly used? And what are the differences between main usages of many similar procedures? As for the parameters of each function and the specific way to code each proc step, these can be accumulated slowly in future work. Besides, SAS also comes with a SAS help module, which records almost all SAS functions and the usages of some functions. As a programmer, you should form a habit of actively checking SAS help at work, after all, because the knowledge in this module is the most authoritative and comprehensive content available.
At Elixir Clinical Research, there is also a comprehensive training system. These training courses are shared by experienced colleagues on the basis of their daily work, such valuable knowledge gained in the actual work could play a great role in helping you adapt to the new working environment and tasks.
02
A SAS programmer's main job is to execute projects, therefore it is beneficial for newcomers to familiarize themselves with the workflow. The most efficient way to familiarize yourself with the workflow is to ask questions regularly!Although SAS programmers use uniform SAS knowledge and follow the same data standards, the process of executing specific projects varies from company to company, and generally, each project is not completed by a single person, but often requires the teamwork of multiple colleagues.
So, if you are a newcomer, it is very helpful for you to ask your experienced colleagues for advice to get familiar with the workflow and working environment quickly. And in this regard, Elixir Clinical Research has a number of advantages. A lot of colleagues here are very young and of similar age, so the working atmosphere is naturally "relaxing and lively". By lively, it means that everyone communicates very well during the project implementation. When newcomers encounter problems, they can actively ask for help from colleagues around them, who will be more than happy to help. At the same time our boss will also directly solve many problems and give a lot of advice and guidance at the project execution level, which is a very valuable resource for a newcomer.
